I’m Free!

Something else worth remembering … and that is that without story, we are FREE! Free to do whatever we want. Here are some options I might choose from …

… I can project my story out and react unconsciously to it, blaming the world around me for the backlash effect that comes from living my limiting story out in vivid technicolor. (When we are living this one out, we generally don't understand that there are actually other choices.)

… I can project my story out and watch it consciously … this allows me to use the whole set up as a learning opportunity for my continued growth and expansion in consciousness. I can use my encounters with others, especially the ones that bring the biggest reaction up in me as grist for the mill in the refinement of personal consciousness.

This might look like a practice of non-reaction until I get to the point where there is not even a desire to react when the other responds in less than desirable ways. In the meantime I observe my overall frequency experience when I am with particular people. Do I love being with them generally? Do I find myself enjoying them overall? Then chances are I'm not going anywhere…. but, if I find myself not feeling in line with them, I can move on …. It's my choice!

… I may find myself moving away from someone … if it is conscious leaving, then I go, not because they “make me suffer”, but because I just don't want to be there anymore. That simple… that direct … I just feel finished for whatever reason … Btw, “I don't want to be here anymore” IS a valid enough reason to go. I don't have to blame it on their behavior (because I understand that they have been a great mirror for me). The point is … I am free to come or go … I may know why I choose what I do -or not.

I'm not talking about a flighty choosing that changes depending on the mood I'm in in the moment. I'm talking about understanding and relaxing into the Universal Truths that teach me the ways of framing my world so that I am living in alignment with Source.

From Victim To Freedom

I understand how difficult this concept that we are at the mercy of life is to shift … Let me elaborate even more….

Yes, things change in life … there are losses and transitions … things fall apart and break and die … all of this is true. It's reality. I certainly don't mean to imply that we should or shouldn't have feelings about any of it ….

What I am saying is that none of the things that happen in my life or around me cause my feelings. It's my thinking and only my thinking that causes my feelings … or moods – every time.

You ask, “Does it not trivialize major things, sad, heartwrenching, or life changing things, to say, well, you still should be totally up, never be affected by these things….”

The question I would ask in response is this …
“It trivializes life changing events that happen in my life if I don't get sad, frustrated, anxious or depressed about them …” is that true?
Or, “I am not taking them as seriously as I should if I don't feel bad because they happened?” Do I know that absolutely?

Personally, I have found no evidence that it is natural or particularly healthy to believe these thoughts. And besides, I'm not sure they are true.
Yes, they are widely believed … and therefore considered “normal” in our world … we've noticed they are widely accepted ideas … but this does not mean we are required to feel bad because things change or dissolve.

There's no right or wrong about it. I will feel according to my thoughts about it …. end of story. I am, after all, free to feel whatever I choose!

Now … maybe I will feel bad … for instance, if I lose something to which I am particularly attached. But I'm clear about one thing… and that is that what is causing my down feelings is not the loss itself. What creates my sadness is what I tell myself about what losing it means!

What I do with those thoughts is my business. I may choose to experience them. I can certainly learn from them if I choose to experience them consciously. I can also believe them without questioning my thoughts and that belief will bring me down.

I can choose to see myself as at the mercy of these feelings or I can examine them closely and opt for a higher frequency perception. It's up to me. That's my whole point. NO SHOULD or SHOULDN'T about it! Just awareness that I have an ever present choice about how I feel right now, regardless of what has happened to or around me!

Every single happening has both a positive as well as negative effect. Death is a blessing as well as a sad passing. There's nothing I have ever lost that I cannot look back and see blessings that came as a result.

This subtle, but definite shift in perception puts me in charge of my life. It gives me the freedom to choose my moods through a process of questioning my blindly accepted precepts.

I invite you to engage in questioning these concepts as long as it takes to shift perception from seeing life as the cause of feelings to understanding that life happenings cannot cause our feelings – only our thoughts about these life events make us feel. This powerful, seemingly subtle shift moves us from victim to FREEdom.

Choosing Frequency

One of my students (thanks Je :)) shared the following example as a way to explain how frequency works ….She said;”Let's say you enter a room full of people.  Half of the crowd is angry and negative and the other half are very positive and upbeat.   The Law of Vibration says that whatever frequency you're on when you walk into the room will determine which group you will find yourself attracted to.”When I shared this metaphor with a client who was stuck in “victim” mentality, she immediately and confidently proclaimed, “I would choose the positive, high frequency group, of course!”  I asked, “When do you plan to start?”  “So far you have conveyed one example after another of how mistreated you are by your boss, your co-workers and your mate … so when exactly do you plan to choose a higher frequency?” It is a choice.  When someone says or behaves towards us in a way that we find offensive and we re-play that scene over and over in our minds – or tell our friends all about how unfairly we've been treated … then we are choosing a low frequency.  Low frequency attracts more low frequency.  Ego likes to personalize other people's behavior – i.e. make their behavior about themselves.  It likes to take something hurtful and dwell on it … and in this way generate lots of resistance in the form of judgment, resentment and hurt feelings and then, ego will work to convince us that our unhappy feelings are justified.  Although there is nothing positive to be gained from mentally regurgitating past painful memories, ego likes to take us into that kind of mental punishment in order to strengthen its own identity as a helpless victim in an unfair world.  This is self abuse.  It generates a low vibration that attracts nothing but more pain and suffering.  Choose instead to let the behavior of others be theirs – and not about you.  Refuse to attach to stories your ego wants to feed you about how they did this or that TO you.  Instead focus on what is working in your life and the things that bring you pleasure.  This is you choosing to associate with the “high frequency crowd”.  Cheers!  🙂
